Tepoztlán: Spiritual Aztec Town

Tepoztlán is a spiritual town in the state of Morelos, 50 miles south from Mexico City.

Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism (SECTUR) titled Tepoztlán a Pueblo Mágico (Magic Town) in 2010.

Tips:

I recommend hiking up the mountains to see the ruins of the Tepozteco: a pre-Hispanic Aztec sacred temple with a view of the town.

The legend of this ancient sanctuary has attracted many to make it to the top of the mountain, with a round trip distance of over two miles.

My suggestion is to consider at least three hours for this activity and have bring cash for the entrance fee — 50 pesos ($2.5).

Tepoztlán is known for its ancient energetic rituals: temazcal, holistic massages and spiritual cleanses. There are spas to relax after the hike, or you may book a night at the spa hotels of the town.

Visit Tepoznieves, an ice cream and gelato store that offers over a hundred flavors. They are located in many cities, but the original one is here and thus it is the town’s heritage.

Something unique about this town is that you can buy mojitos and drink them anywhere to refresh after the hike. You will find them on the streets, bars or where the pathway to the mountain begins.

If you are looking for a natural/spiritual adventure, Tepoztlán is your place to go!
