Taxco: Mexican Silver Treasure

Taxco is located in the state of Guerrero, just about three hours (110 miles) from Mexico City.

It is a colonial mining city known for its silver-making.

Taxco was recognized as a Pueblo Mágico (Magic Town) by Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism (SECTUR) in 2002.

Tips

Although Taxco is a very small town, I recommend staying one night to have dinner with a view to the Parroquia (Parish) de Santa Prisca y San Sebastián, located in the heart of the city.

There are some ATM’s around, but you will need cash to pay for freeway tolls, drinks/snacks for the ride and souvenirs. Some shops and restaurants take cards, but the stands inside silver markets or on the streets are usually cash-only.

There are silver-jewelry markets in almost every corner within walking distance of the parish. Most of the silver pieces sold are handmade by the people of this town.

Many restaurants and bars have a terrace with a view of the city. Restaurante La Parroquia is my favorite place to appreciate the beautiful sunset that makes Taxco one of my favorite spots in the country.

If you ever consider to visit Mexico City, Taxco is a destination that you will not want to miss!
